Core Strength and Balance:
A workshop with Lindel Hart

Strengthen your abs and increase stability through balancing poses. Build awareness of the relationship between your core and balance. While we are led to believe that the elusive six-pack abs are what it's all about, it's the deeper abdominals that do the real work of keeping the spine free and supported.

Learn how to tone the midsection and build abdominal strength by working through a number of yoga poses and other exercises. We'll also work on balancing poses to discover just how important abdominal support is.

Take home a practice that supports your whole body from the inside out!

Some knowledge and experience of yoga is helpful if you plan to attend this workshop.

Yoga from the Core of Stillness with Lindel Hart
Kripalu Center for Health and Yoga
Stockbridge, MA

Course Description:
Return to the source in this restorative retreat, reconnecting to what Lindel Hart calls “the core of stillness.” Slowing down the mind provides space to step back from the surface of your practice to reveal a more profound and satisfying organic foundation. By deconstructing the way you view and embody asanas, Lindel will help you open your mind, body, and heart to the possibilities available in each moment.

The workshop will explore a full range of postures that includes inversions. Focused breathwork and meditation will prepare you for a potent, energizing, and meaningful yoga practice. Time for meditation and reflection will be built into each session, and journaling will be encouraged to record important insights.

The program includes a full restorative yoga session in which the studio becomes a sanctuary of stillness. During this session, all poses will be practiced on the floor, supported by bolsters, blankets, and other props to facilitate a gradual, sustained sense of opening, a heightened sense of awareness, and deeper relaxation.

All levels welcome, with a minimum of 6 months experience with yoga requested.

This course is eligible for CE credits for yoga instructors and fitness trainers.

Drawing Closer to Nature through Art and Yoga
Kripalu Center for Health and Yoga
Stockbridge, MA

Course Description:
Art and yoga are complementary practices that can help us recover our lost sense of unity with nature. As we draw closer to nature through these practices, we also draw closer to ourselves, tapping into the creative soul that exists in us all. This brings about a richer, more authentic, and graceful sense of artistic expression and our place in the world.

Artist Peter London employs simple art materials—such as charcoals, oil pastels, and tempera and watercolor paints—and uncomplicated techniques that require no previous training. Lindel Hart offers a hatha yoga practice that is accessible to all. Together they provide an integrated and holistic approach that enriches and extends the powers of art and yoga to explore, portray, and incorporate the endlessly rewarding ways of nature.

In a safe and supportive environment, all participants, regardless of prior experience with art or yoga, have the opportunity to relax and draw closer to their inner nature and to the natural world.

Henna with Heart with
Kelly Flaherty of Henna Elements

Adorn your body with Kelly Flaherty's amazing henna art!

Henna is a safe, natural dye derived from the crushed leaves of the henna plant, a flowering shrub which grows in hot arid regions like North Africa and the Middle East. Traditionally it was used to paint elaborate and auspicious designs on the hands and feet of brides to bless the marriage and nurture fertility. Modern times have brought this 9000-year-old art form to many cultures across the globe. Buddhists, Christians, earth-based religions, Hindus, Jews, Muslims and others use henna for celebrating weddings, holidays, births and coming-of-age rituals.

Now men and women alike adorn themselves with henna art. Just as you choose jewelry to wear, you choose the temporary designs of henna to express yourself.

Unlike ink tattooing, henna application does not pierce the skin. A paste is applied to the skin in a hand-drawn design, staining the first few layers of the skin a rich burgundy color that lasts one to two weeks. The design will gradually disappear as you naturally exfoliate.

The process of receiving henna is relaxing, both for the recipient and the onlookers. Many people report a deep sense of ease while having henna applied.

Designs can be as simple or elaborate as you choose, with prices starting at only $5.

Physical Theatre Workshop
with Bronwyn Sims and Patrick Donnelly

All live performance styles have something in common: the performer seeks to communicate something to the audience, to affect the audience, and ideally, to reach the audience on an emotional level. The physical performer has an advantage, because nonverbal communication is extremely powerful. But technique alone will not move an audience, nor will it enable performers to reach their full potential as artists. This workshop focuses on proven exercises in dramatic structure, vulnerability, imagination, improvisation, status, and establishing a relationship with the audience. Students will come away with expanded possibilities and understanding of themselves and their art, and the power to courageously initiate a dialogue with any audience.

Exploring the Inner Landscape through Yoga, Chanting and Meditation:
An Afternoon of Contemplative Practice

with Lindel Hart and Rick Roberts

Join Lindel Hart and Rick Roberts for an afternoon of physical, spiritual and mental rejuvenation. Enter into the stillness that promotes self exploration through yoga, chanting and meditation. Come together in community with others for this mindful retreat from an overactive world to reconnect with your natural state of balance, harmony and peace.

The afternoon will include a gentle asana practice guided by Lindel Hart and chanting with Rick Roberts and friends, as well as time for silent meditation together. There will be no specific instruction for meditation; we'll simply sit quietly together.

Like the quiet space between the in-breath and the out-breath, the stillness that arises out of yoga and chanting leads one easily and naturally into meditation. No vocal/musical, yoga or meditation experience is necessary to experience the joy of this afternoon of contemplative practice. All are welcome, regardless of the type of yoga, meditation or spiritual practice you may have.

This event is FREE. However, donations are appreciated.

Shamanista Musical Healing Experience: A Shamanic Journey to the Inner Landscape
with Faith Burrington Jones
Sunday, November 6, 2011; 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
COST: $65. Sliding scale available.

Come join us at the beautiful healing space of Hart Yoga Studio on the top floor of the Salmon Falls Artisan Showroom building in Shelburne Falls, MA, for a deep inner experience using breathwork, evocative music, expressive artwork, and group sharing.

This shamanista musical healing experiential uses the power of circular rhythmic breathing along with evocative music that creates energy flow through the chakra system of the body. This method is very effective for accessing ones inner landscape. This deep healing experience can facilitate the release of deep psychic blocks stored in cellular memory, thus opening the mind and heart for a deeper understanding of Self and the interconnectedness to all creation. The group experience facilitates the energies that are necessary to transform both individually and universally.

Faith Burrington Jones is a psychotherapist who specializes in the integration and alignment of Body/Mind/Spirit. She is certified in Integrative Breathwork and Psycho-spiritual Integration through Jacquelyn Small and the Eupsychia Institute. She has been studying and practicing holistic healing for well over 20 years. She feels deeply honored and blessed to guide others on their individual journeys to remembering their true essence and creating their life's purpose. She strongly believes that life flows in a continuum of death/rebirth cycles and acceptance of this process brings peace and joy into ones life experience. We are currently in a transformational shift both individually and universally in conscious awareness and are being called to a daily practice of aligning with ultimate truth and our Soul purpose.

This workshop facilitates deep Shamanic healing and conscious awareness; it is a healing into wholeness!

Embracing the shadow gives birth to the light.

Mark Fraser: Black and White Documentary Photos, 1976-1991
May 22 - July 17, 2011
Opening Reception: Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 3-6 PM
Live performance by cellists Mark Fraser and Ben Peterson at 4 PM

Artist's Statement:

I have lived in Deerfield, Massachusetts, at Woolman Hill for eleven years. I am a professional cellist, and I also work at Woolman Hill.

I became obsessed with photography at age fifteen while living in Windsor, Ontario. My first camera was a medium format twin-lens reflex; two of the photos in this exhibit are from my first roll of film in that camera.

I loved my time alone prowling the streets in search of good shots. I remember cutting high school classes when the light outside was irresistibly just right. I loved equally my time in the darkroom, the magic of watching my creations come to life in the developer tray.

My work could be described as documentary photography. I strive to capture art and beauty in the everyday images of people, things, and nature.

I only shoot black and white film. My cameras over the years have been a Yashica Mat twin lens reflex, and Argus C3, an Olympus OM2, a Leica M3, and most recently, my uncle's Rolleiflex, a return to my original medium format. The prints in the exhibit were processed by me, on selenium-toned double-weight fiber paper.

View Mark's photos during regular Hart Yoga class times or by special arrangement with Lindel Hart (413.768.9291 or lindel@hartyoga.com)
