Art at Hart Yoga: Recent Collages by Peter London
August 15 - September 6, 2010
Opening Reception: Saturday, August 14, 2010 4-6 PM

We are thrilled to host this showing of new works by renowned artist Peter London!

The show comprises a dozen pieces conceived as still life collages, encompassing actual elements from previous works of art by Mr. London. "The act of tearing or cutting some of my work from the past gives it new life," he says. "And it allows me - and you, the viewer - to view fragments of existing work in an entirely new context. Yes, they appear to suggest the forms of cups and bowls and vases, but there is an inner life that expresses so much more. These forms serve as windows into other works of art, other ideas, other eras."

The show will remain on view at Hart Yoga through September 6 during regular studio hours or by appointment.

    From the artist:

    See these
A series of vases cups and bowls now in paper cut and torn

See these as you would choose your outfit for the date you were going to have later in the day with someone you love and hadn't seen for a long while

See these as you would be pleased to see the food arranged on your plate in an expensive restaurant

See these as knick knacks arranged along the window sill of an old biddy's home

See these as vases cups and bowls

See these as pieces of torn and cut paper pretending to be vases cups and bowls

See these as a curious cat early in the morning walking here and there around the house smelling things in a certain order known only to that cat

See these things as Cezanne saw pears and apples

See these things as a series of moves in a chess game that I made up and constantly change the rules trying to win

See these things as one thing with many parts like you and me; eyes nose liver heart knee toe hair ear spleen and such all somehow connected to make something else, perhaps something more

See these things as an oasis from the tumbling times

    See these things

    --Peter London

Exploring the Inner Landscape through Yoga, Chanting and Meditation:
An Afternoon of Contemplative Practice
Second Sunday of the Month, 3-6 PM

September 12, October 10*, November 14, December 12, 2010

Join Lindel Hart and Rick Roberts for an afternoon of physical, spiritual and mental rejuvenation as we enter into the stillness that promotes self exploration through yoga postures, chanting and meditation. Come together in community with others for this mindful retreat from an overactive world to reconnect with your natural state of balance, harmony and peace.

The afternoon will include an asana practice guided by Lindel Hart and chanting with Rick Roberts and friends, as well as time for silent meditation together. There will be no specific instruction for meditation; we'll simply sit quietly together.

Like the quiet space between the in-breath and the out-breath, the stillness that arises out of yoga and chanting leads one easily and naturally into meditation. No vocal/musical, yoga or meditation experience is necessary to experience the joy of this afternoon of contemplative practice. All are welcome, regardless of the type of yoga, meditation or spiritual practice you may have.

This event is FREE. However, donations are appreciated.

For more information, contact Lindel Hart or Rick Roberts:

This program is supported in part by grants from the Buckland, Charlemont-Hawley, Conway and Greenfield Cultural Councils, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

*Exploring the Inner Landscape on October 10 will be held at Green River Yoga, 158 Main Street, 2nd Floor, Greenfield, MA.

Yoga from the Core of Stillness
with Lindel Hart

Kripalu Center for Health and Yoga
Stockbridge, MA
June 20 – 23, 2010 (Sunday - Wednesday)

    Course Description:
Return to the source in this restorative retreat, reconnecting to what Lindel Hart calls “the core of stillness.” Slowing down the mind provides space to step back from the surface of your practice to reveal a more profound and satisfying organic foundation. By deconstructing the way you view and embody asanas, Lindel will help you open your mind, body, and heart to the possibilities available in each moment.

The workshop will explore a full range of postures that includes inversions. Focused breathwork and meditation will prepare you for a potent, energizing, and meaningful yoga practice. Time for meditation and reflection will be built into each session, and journaling will be encouraged to record important insights.

The program includes a full restorative yoga session in which the studio becomes a sanctuary of stillness. During this session, all poses will be practiced on the floor, supported by bolsters, blankets, and other props to facilitate a gradual, sustained sense of opening, a heightened sense of awareness, and deeper relaxation.

All levels welcome, with a minimum of 6 months experience with yoga requested.

This course is eligible for CE credits for yoga instructors and fitness trainers.

Cost of Workshop: $225 plus meals and accommodations.

Sun Salutations for Haitians:
A Fundraiser for Haiti Earthquake Relief
Saturday, February 6, 2010
9:00 - 11:00 AM

Lindel Hart hosts a 2-hour drop-in yoga session, consisting primarily of ongoing basic Sun Salutations. No experience is necessary to participate in the relief effort, as Hart will guide participants through this basic sequence of poses.

Come to the studio for all or part of the fundraiser. Whether you want to do two Sun Salutations or twenty, the important thing is to show up! Come for five minutes, come for a half hour, or come for the entire event.

We are suggesting a minimum donation of $10, although larger amounts are certainly welcome. You don't even have to do any yoga if you don't want to. Just come by the studio, say hello and make a donation.

Or sponsor someone else to participate: for instance, contribute $10 for a friend to do 10 Sun Salutations. If you don't know anyone to sponsor, we can match up your contribution with someone who comes to the event.

Individuals who are unable to attend are encouraged to send contributions for the relief effort to:

    Hart Yoga
    1 Ashfield Street, Suite 8
    Shelburne Falls, MA 01370

Checks may be made out to "Hart Yoga" or to "The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund".

All contributions will be sent to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, which was set up by former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush to channel funds "for immediate, high-impact relief and long-term recovery efforts to help those who are most in need of assistance." One hundred percent of donations received will go directly to relief efforts in Haiti.

Drawing Closer to Nature through Art and Yoga
Kripalu Center for Health and Yoga
Stockbridge, MA
September 13 – 18, 2009

    Course Description:
Art and yoga are complementary practices that can help us recover our lost sense of unity with nature. As we draw closer to nature through these practices, we also draw closer to ourselves, tapping into the creative soul that exists in us all. This brings about a richer, more authentic, and graceful sense of artistic expression and our place in the world.

Artist Peter London employs simple art materials—such as charcoals, oil pastels, and tempera and watercolor paints—and uncomplicated techniques that require no previous training. Lindel Hart offers a hatha yoga practice that is accessible to all. Together they provide an integrated and holistic approach that enriches and extends the powers of art and yoga to explore, portray, and incorporate the endlessly rewarding ways of nature.

In a safe and supportive environment, all participants, regardless of prior experience with art or yoga, have the opportunity to relax and draw closer to their inner nature and to the natural world.

Cost of Workshop: $325 plus meals and accommodations.

For more information, check out Kripalu’s website.
